MedjetAssist Membership Benefits

MedjetAssist is a membership program, not a health insurance plan or travel insurance plan.  As a membership program, it offers more and better services…and better value.  Unlike other plans, MedjetAssist provides members with air medical transportation both worldwide and domestically.

MedjetAssist EvacuationsMembers get to choose if they want to fly to their home hospital or any other hospital of their choice.  And there are no additional costs to worry about and no limits on total air transportation expenses.

As a MedjetAssist member, if you are hospitalized virtually anywhere in the world, simply call MedjetAssist and a specially equipped aircraft with a medical team can be dispatched to bring you to your home hospital or hospital of your choice so you can be treated by your personal physician and be close to your family.

MedjetAssist is a prepaid, air medical transportation membership program -- not a travel insurance policy or health care plan.  MedjetAssist was created to provide affordable, high-quality air ambulance service to individuals, families and businesses.

Lloyd's of London underwrites the program to guarantee that a transport will be available to every MedjetAssist member in time of need.

MedjetAssist transports members without regard to medical necessity. Members who are hospitalized may choose to be transported to a hospital of their choice.

There is no limit on the cost of a medical transport.  And unlike travel insurance or travel platinum cards, MedjetAssist provides medical evacuations for its members both globally and domestically.

MedjetAssist's services are provided to members 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Call Collect From Anywhere
To discuss a problem or course of action, members can call the medical department collect or use a toll free number in the U.S., Canada or Caribbean.

Worldwide Evacuation and Repatriation
When a member becomes hospitalized as an inpatient due to an illness or injury while traveling more than 150 miles from home, either within or outside the contiguous United States, MedjetAssist will provide air medical transportation, medical evacuation and repatriation services to the hospital of the member's choice.

Transport Service to Specialty Hospital
If a member is hospitalized as an inpatient in their hometown hospital, and it is determined that the member requires the services of a specialty hospital within the United States located more than 150 miles away from the member's primary residence, MedjetAssist will provide air medical transportation to that facility, if the patient is unable to travel by commercial means without a medical escort.  The member's attending physician along with the MedjetAssist physician must agree to the medical necessity of the transport to the specialty facility.

Medical Referrals
MedjetAssist representatives will provide contact information for doctors and hospitals in the area in which the member is traveling.  Telephone interpretation can also be provided when necessary.  The selection and payment of the medical provider remain the member's responsibility.

Medical Monitoring/Consultation
As soon as MedjetAssist is notified of a member's medical situation, the medical staff will establish communication with both the family and the local attending medical provider, obtain a full understanding of the situation and begin to monitor the member's condition.

Medical professionals will stay in communication with the local medical personnel and relay necessary information to the member and his or her family or employer until the situation is resolved and the member is either able to resume travel or an air medical transport is initiated.

Telephone Interpretation
Members can receive assistance with foreign language interpretation over the telephone when they are having difficulty communicating with local medical specialists, by calling a toll free number or calling collect from anywhere in the world.

Emergency Message Relay
Members may send and receive emergency messages to and from relatives, friends and business associates toll free, 24 hours a day, through the MedjetAssist staff.

Legal Referrals
MedjetAssist provides contact information for certified attorneys in the area in which the member is traveling.  Telephone interpretation can be provided when necessary.  The selection and payment of the attorney are the responsibility of the member.

Visa, Passport & Immunization Requirements
MedjetAssist will provide information regarding visa, passport and immunization requirements for foreign countries in which members will be traveling.  For an additional cost, members may also receive services such as expedition or replacement of lost or stolen visas and passports.

Travel, Health & Safety Precautions
In addition to providing travel, health and safety precautions for international destinations, members may also receive comprehensive pre-travel medical consultations.

Transport of Mortal Remains
In the unfortunate event of a member's death while traveling more than 150 miles from home, MedjetAssist will arrange and pay for all necessary government authorization, provide a container appropriate for transportation, and return the remains to the member's place of residence for burial.

Memberships Outside the United States
Individuals residing outside the United States and Canada are eligible for MedjetAssist memberships.


MedjetAssist Plus Program

In addition to the benefits of the regular MedjetAssist membership, there are some rather unique and useful benefits in a special program called "MedjetAssist Plus."  They include: secure on-line storage and maintenance of your personal and family medical and vital health information; up to the minute trip intelligence dealing with pubic health, safety and other issues; a free international cell phone rental and the ability to access a substantial amount of cash in an emergency.

Medical Information
You can store and access your personal and family medical and vital health information online in a secure environment, with the ability to update and forward them to appropriate healthcare providers virtually anywhere in the world.

Trip Intelligence
You have the ability to acquire inside information about the politics, public health, community infrastructure and general safety environment of more than 260 cities and 180 countries throughout the world.  You can also be provided with a comprehensive "trip brief" via fax or email prior to your departure.

International Cell Phone
You receive a free international cell phone rental and you only pay for shipping and airtime charges.  This service gives you one cell number that works in more than 150+ countries offering dependable voice mail to ensure that there are no missed messages when the phone is turned off or out of reach.  The free rental applies to all trips you make during your MedjetAssist Plus membership period.

Emergency Cash Advance
If you become ill or injured during your travels, as a MedjetAssist Plus member, you will be provided with a cash advance of up to US $50,000 to take care of immediate medical needs.  This is especially important because some foreign hospitals and doctors may require an up-front payment before treatment.  MedjetAssist takes care of all the arrangements to obtain appropriate repayment guarantees so you don't have to deal with the red tape or delays in money transfers.

No Medical Necessity

MedjetAssist members are transported without regard to medical necessity.  This means members, as long as they are hospitalized as an inpatient, can choose to be transported to another hospital, even if the facility they are in is considered adequate.  The choice is theirs.  It’s that simple!

In contrast, health and travel insurance plans and platinum card benefits require that a transfer be medically required.  In other words, as long as the care at a hospital is deemed adequate, transferring to another hospital is not an option.


Home Hospital
MedjetAssist flies individuals to their home hospital or hospital of their choice. Other plans generally restricts transports to the nearest hospital that provides "appropriate care."  This means individuals are taken to a hospital the shortest distance away that has adequate care, but not necessarily the best care.

MedjetAssist members, if hospitalized, do not have to worry about being transported to a nearby hospital in a foreign country that has only adequate medical care.  Members choose if they want to fly home to their local hospital or hospital of their choice to receive the very best care and to be near their family.


No Cost Limits
MedjetAssist has no limit on the cost of a medical transport.  Many companies and insurance plans place caps – some as low as $25,000 – on the total amount available for an air ambulance.  But a medical transport between Europe and America can run more than $35,000. Middle East and South American flights range from $60,000 to $80,000.  Transport from Asia often exceeds $100,000.

Domestic Transports
Only MedjetAssist provides air medical transportation within the United States as well as abroad.  Other travel insurance plans and platinum card benefits only cover travel in other countries.  If a MedjetAssist member is injured or becomes sick and is hospitalized while traveling in the U.S. or abroad, MedjetAssist will bring them to their home hospital or hospital of their choice.

In addition, if a MedjetAssist member is hospitalized in their hometown hospital and requires the services that only a specialty hospital (center of excellence) can provide, and the member is too ill or injured to fly commercially, MedjetAssist will fly that member to the specialty hospital, provided it is more than 150 miles from the member's home hospital.
